I'll make this file short & sweet for those of you who'd rather not read annoying Readme files...
First of all, thank you for downloading some of the best X-Files icons on the Net! This collection is constantly being updated, along with my web site, so be sure to always check back at http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Vista/7152 for additions. Did you notice The X-Files Start Button changer? The latest version is there too...
Installation:
* If you've installed previous versions of The X-Files Icon Collection, you may need to run the Microangelo Engineer once again since there have been a few filename changes.
"But how do I use these icons?!" some of you may ask. Easy. First of all, you'll need to create a new folder and 'unzip' the file into it, for example, "C:\The X-Files Icons". Just make sure that you're unzipping them properly, getting the full filename of the icon. I recommend WinZip v6.2. Since most of us know how to unzip, I'll just skip to the actual installing of the icons.
Next, you'll need a program that allows you to change the default Windows95 system icons. One program that I recommend is Microangelo v2.1 to change these icons (folders, start menu, desktop, blah blah blah...). It's an excellent shareware program that also lets you create your own icons. For Start Menu and Desktop icons:
Like 'Em?
Finally, if you like these icons enough to distribute them in any way, please feel free to do so. All I ask is that you mention who created them, i.e., Terry E. Mitchell. For those of you with your own website, please feel free to include a link to my website you wish.
If you have any questions or comments about anything that you see on my site, or if you wish to be added to my mailing list to be notified of new icon updates, don't hesitate to e-mail me at terrymitchell@geocities.com.

1: Want to use the extension icons and change the Windows95 default? Go Start -> Programs -> Windows Explorer. Next, choose View -> Options -> File Types. Here you'll find a list of extensions that you may change by double-clicking the extension description and choosing Change Icon -> Browse. Go to where you unzipped The X-Files Icon Collection and choose the appropriate icon.

2: Want to create a shortcut to programs on your desktop? Open Windows Explorer and click on the folder where the program is located. Right-click the proper file (usually the one with the .EXE) and drag it to your Desktop. For example, to create a shortcut to Internet Mail, open the C:\Windows folder. Find Internet Mail and right-click the Internet Mail icon, keeping your finger pressed. Drag to your Desktop, release the right mouse button and choose Create Shortcut Here. *Note: Make sure that Windows Explorer is not full screen. Give yourself room to drag.
3: Want to change the icon(s) of your Desktop shortcuts? If you have, for instance, a shortcut to CD Player on your desktop, you may change the default icon by right-clicking the CD Player icon and choosing Properties -> Shortcut -> Change Icon -> Browse. Choose the CD Player icon of your choice.
